The Higher The Heat, The Taller The Biscuit

This post comes from one of our Pride - Holly Powers

Did you know that God’s people are a lot like biscuits. People are like biscuits because they don’t rise to their full potential without high heat.

Before you start thinking too hard about this let me say we don’t start out that way.

In the beginning of your life with God you are just plain old boring flour, in a jar, stuck on a shelf. Then one day you discover you are in the kitchen of the Master Baker. Come to find out, He has a plan for your life. As you sumbit to His process He takes you out of the jar and puts you in a whole new place, a bowl. Things continue to change as He puts salt, soda, buttermilk, and shortening in the bowl with you. These ingredients are other people and circumstances that get thrown into the mix of your life. He doesn’t stop there. Then comes the mixing.

I’m not saying that everything that happens in your life is God ordained. We live in a broken world with broken people who have a free will. They do crazy stuff! We also have an Enemy that tries to sabotage God’s plan for us.  God is good and He promises to make everything work for your good. Whatever the Devil has done to try to ruin God’s recipe for your life is not permanent. I have good news! God can fix anything! Even a jacked up biscuit mix! All of us have had moments when we thought we were ruined, failed or had been defeated! God can fix it and continue the process of making you into something amazing.

The process of mixing can be very unsettling. This is all new to you. You aren’t sure who you are anymore. You don’t look the same or feel the same. If you’re anything like me, you want to know what’s going on?

Come to find out, all these new changes are making you better. So you adjust, you get used to this new you, this new situation, but you don’t know what’s next. All you know is God is good and you’re learning to trust Him.

You’ve made it this far and now something new is happening. Now you’re being taken out of the bowl. Now you’re being squashed, smashed, folded, and squeezed. What is happening! You thought you were saved! Maybe you were wrong? Now you’re being cut and repositioned in a place you’ve never been before. This is where things take a turn y’all…

Little did you know the oven was next. The heat is rising. The good news is, you’ve been prepared for this even though you didn’t know it. You were made for this. You were destined for this oven, but that’s not your destination, it’s just one part of your journey. The oven represents a fiery ordeal. Circumstances that cause you to die to old ways of thinking and behaving. You would know if you’ve been through one. They change you and strip away all of the things that aren’t important. You start to understand what Jesus was feeling as He was going to the cross. It’s not over, even though it feels like it.

You’re about to be transformed into something amazing!

Little did you know God loves tall, fluffy, beautiful biscuits. When they’re fresh out of the oven their fragrance fills the air and makes everyone’s mouth water with hunger. You were destined to feed to the nations…

You’ve been prepared in the same way as Jesus. He’s been placed in you. His life, health, joy, love, and peace is being developed in you. As you give your life away like Jesus, you refresh and strengthen the people that God serves you to.

Jesus is the bread of life that is being reproduced in us. When we come through on the other side of suffering, that is when we are the most like Jesus.

This sounds negative, but suffering is a part of the journey. This is why there is an emphasis in scripture of us overcoming. John 16:33 Jesus said, in this world you will have trials and tribulations, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world, or Phil. 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

There is glory and honor to be had in all of this. We will become glorious reflections of Jesus! Glorious trophies that The Father puts on display because He’s proud of us for trusting and partnering with Him. We are also the fruit of Jesus’ suffering. We will be His trophies as well! Now The Father can show all creation what a glorious Artisan He truly is -through us…

Next time you feel the heat turning up, just remember.

The higher the heat, the taller the biscuit…
